About Vilar

The house of Vilar is set in a small hamlet on the crest of a hill overlooking a valley, and into the distance the Palace of Monforte De Lemos and the mountains.

The house consists of three bedrooms,(two doubles and one twin - there is also a double sofa bed in the second small lounge) bathroom, large lounge, diner, kitchen with original wood burning stove and a second small lounge.
Outside there are two enclosed terraces. The upper terrace is shaded by vines and has a natural stone patio.

The lower terrace has an open fronted barn which contains the original bread oven used in supplying bread to the village in days gone by. To the side of the lower terrace is a path leading to a natural spring where you can collect fresh chilled drinking water. This spring was at one time the only source of water to the village and today is still used in preference by locals to tap water.
Adjoining the house is an orchard with apple, pear, fig and cherry trees. There is a small but fruitful vineyard.
From the garden there are views across the valley to neighbouring villages.

The nearest town to Vilar is Ferreria de Panton. While this is a relatively small town it does have two well stocked supermarkets, a number of banks and cash machines, a pharmacy, a petrol station and a bakery that makes all of it's bread on the premises (worth a look just to see the old bead ovens still in use today). Ferreria has a number of bars where you can enjoy drinks, snacks and in some a full lunch or dinner. Prices are very reasonable and cheaper than in the larger towns.Ferreria is a 5 minute drive from Casa de Vilar, and it is a further 20 minutes drive to the larger town of Monforte de Lemos.
